August Features

August 1, 2018

Its shaping up to be a busy month here at the gallery! This month we are happy to be showcasing a number of new arrivals from Maureen Maryka, Ed Oldfield, Barry Tate, Gordon Friesen, Christine Reimer, Allan Hopper, and Tom Shardlow.

Maureen Maryka's August showing features six pieces. Her show includes three sky scenes, two waterfalls scenes, and one floral piece. One of these pieces, "Sky Celebration" is a beautiful and dramatic 24"x24" acrylic painting full of colour and movement. Another addition to the gallery this month is "Abkhazi Garden Impressions". At 11"x14", this smaller work still manages to excellently showcase the intensity and flow that is always present in Maureen's works.

Adding to our collection of raku works in the gallery, Ed Oldfield has brought us an impressive piece of driftwood entitled "Waves" that has been dried out and coated. The artist has then attached his beautiful sea star raku pieces in various sizes, creating a piece that catches your eye from no matter where you are in the gallery. Additionally, Ed has brought us more of his raku sea stars in assorted sizes and colours, and more beautiful raku barnacle vases. Take a look at one of these stunning vases and the inspiration behind it on the post below!

Barry Tate is featuring with us this month with a fantastic selection of giclee reproductions on canvas, as well as three original pieces available. We are also thrilled to announce that Barry will be doing a meet and greet here in the gallery on Saturday, August 11th from 10 am to 3 pm. Be sure to stop by and say hello, ask questions, or simply peruse the gallery - everyone is welcome to attend!

Although this piece was brought to us in late July, the gallery is thrilled to be able to display Gordon Friesen's linocut print of the Sidney Pier. This print features a favourite scene among locals, though one that is not depicted enough in our opinion! Gordon has also allowed us to display his original linocut block in order to show the process behind creating linocut prints. These limited edition prints are hand pulled on mulberry paper, with the first in the edition available framed.

The gallery is also excited to have Christine Reimer showing with us this month. Christine has brought us a number of paper prints, giclee reproductions in smaller sizes, as well as a 40"x30" original piece entitled "Filtered Light, Salt Spring Island".

Further additions to the gallery include prints and art cards from Allan Hopper, and works from Tom Shardlow are expected to arrive around the 15th of August, so stay tuned!
